Self Assessment - Your Management Habits

These self-assessments have been designed to have you stop and think. Its an opportunity to explore other options as the questions trigger alternative strategies and actions. Often I have found that if you have available a tool for quiet reflection the answer to your problem will become apparent.

Respond to the following questions with a tick in the Yes or No Columns




1. Are you able to easily pass on work to others?



2. Do you have clarity on your next career move? (Can be in the same organization)



3. Do you spend a minimum amount of time fixing or fire fighting the same issues?



4. Are you able to recruit and retain talented people?



5. Do you make decisions in a reasonable timeframe?



6. If a piece of work is not completed satisfactorily do you require the person to repeat the work until it meets your standards?



7. Do you put aside time to coach people on your team to improve?



8. Are you efficient in the use of your time?



9. Do you talk to your direct reports to help you think through problems and issues?



10. Do you know which of your clients /products bring you the best return on your investment?



11. Are you doing different work to what you were doing two years ago?



12. Are your team members doing different work to what they were doing two years ago?



If you had difficulty answering Yes for most of these questions then you may have problems in making changes that will create the workplace that you want. In any case you ought to discuss your responses with someone else in your organisation to check your perceptions. Who knows where the conversation may lead.
